Installation Guide

Visit the www.rollbacksoftware.com and download Rollback Rx by clicking DOWNLOAD NOW button.

Extract the downloaded Rollback_setup.zip file

Extracted content will be as below.

Precautions before Installation

1.       Supported operating systems will be Windows client Operating systems like XP, Vista and 7.

2.       All Partitions in the primary hard disk is not compressed. If compressed, Please un-compress before installation

3.       Ensure one GB free space in all partitions of primary hard-disk 

4.       Ensure the PC is free from any viruses or other malware. If not the Installation snapshot saved by default during installation is always in affected state. Restoring from snapshot will restore malware also.

5.       Disable any protection software which blocks access & writing to MASTER BOOT RECORD (MBR) of Windows PC.

To Install Run Setup.exe

Press Next

Press Next after reading End User License Agreement

If downloaded from Web Select No Else select Yes to check for latest version [ For checking the latest version, ensure internet is connected and active in the PC ].
 

Click OK and NEXT

By Default ‘Default option’ will be selected. Select custom option as shown below. Do not select the advanced option as it is for experienced user,s who already created setup.cfg file to configure rollback during installation

Click Next

Enter your username, company name
 

For Trial Installations, By clicking Demo button will generate Product-ID which will be giving fully functional Trial edition for 14 days.

If you have purchased the box version,

1.       Open the box

2.       Scratch the strip behind the CD cover

3.       Enter the activation code under the scratched portion in Product ID field. Ensure PC is connected to Internet before clicking NEXT

4.       For offline activation, please contact your vendor with the necessary details. The procedure will be covered in later post of the same blog.

Click Next

If you want to change the default installation location click browse, select the installation folder location and click NEXT

If you do not want to change the default installation folder click NEXT

Select an option based on your windows PC Configuration (whether PC is a multi-boot system or not)

Please note Rollback Rx will not offer protection for Operating system & Software configurations and Data for Non-Windows partitions.

Click NEXT

Choose to lock Rollback RX access by password or not

It is recommended to protect the access by strong password as Rollback to previous snapshots can be done before booting into windows without Windows log-in credentials.

Click Next

Protection of Primary partition of windows is by default

Select other partitions as required to manage other software installations and documents rollback

For Those PCs / Laptops with Hidden partitions for Factory default rollback, those hidden partitions are not necessary to be protected

Click NEXT

The Summary Information of configuration selected is presented. If you need to change anything select Back Button and do the necessary changes before returning to the same screen.

If all the configurations are OK Click NEXT button

Please wait till analyzing Drives and reading partitions exercise is over, then click NEXT

Restart the Computer by selecting Yes and clicking finish buttion.

On Restart Rollback Rx Subsystem Installation will be running with progress bar before windows is started.

After windows is started, Initial configuration setup wizard will be started

If UAC is enabled,  allow the Rollback Rx programs like Shield to run.

Click NEXT

Select the snapshot schedule as per your requirements

1.       Manual snapshot- User will be taking snapshot either from Program window or Taskbar Icon

2.       Computer Restart – Best option for high risk systems as every start state is saved thus uninstalling unwanted software installations or corrupted documents recovery can be done by restoring to the start of computer. Unsuitable for those laptop users who are always use Hibernate function

3.       Daily snapshot at given hour – Particular hour and minutes can be selected to take snapshot. Later the application can be configured to take snapshot on next logon if the PC is not ON during the scheduled hour. Suitable for users who use Hibernate function of PC/laptop

4.       Daily At first boot – Snapshot will be taken at the first boot of the day. Ideal selection for most users and work desktops

5.       Weekly snapshot – once a week snapshot, not recommended

6.       New snapshot before a particular program runs – Ideal option for the systems with software which conflict with systems settings or other software

Option -Automatically delete old unlocked snapshot when the snapshots are old by particular number of days.

-          Please select the number of days as per user requirement. Keeping minimum number of snapshot will improve the performance

Click Finish to end the initial configuration wizard

Rollback Rx will be started
Allow the permissions for Rollback Rx programs to run if UAC is bloking.

Log on to the Rollback for further configuration

Rollback Rx for PC client installation is completed successfully.

Please note if you are using windows defraggers Uninstall Rollback Rx before running the defragger.

Important Caution for Trial Users


Please Uninstall the demo version before expiry if you are not activating with the full version, to avoid system crashes or unpleasant rollback resulting in loss of data.
